Father James Keller founded The Christophers in 1945 to promote the idea that “it’s better to light one candle than to curse the darkness.” He believed that instead of complaining about what was wrong with our lives or the world, we should take constructive action to improve things, guided by Jesus’s example of divine love and mercy.
He shared that message on the TV version of “Christopher Closeup,” which ran from 1952 to 2007 – and which also aired on many radio stations. Then, we transitioned to doing a radio show exclusively. This week marked the 500th episode of that show, which can be found as a podcast here, as well as on Apple Podcasts, iHeart, Spotify, and Amazon Music.
In light of this occasion, here is a special “Christopher Closeup” episode which revisits some highlights from past interviews. Guest clips include comedy legend Tim Conway, actor and humanitarian Gary Sinise, Hallmark actress and dementia caregiving advocate Nikki DeLoach, Christopher Award-winning author Kate Bowler, Grammy Award winner Harry Connick Jr., CBS News’ John Dickerson, and actress/writer/producer Bonnie Hunt.
